Run IntelliComplete and it will stay resident in memory. You will see a toolbar docked at the right side of the screen and a red desktop light icon in the system tray. You can get the main menu by right clicking on the tray icon or clicking the first button on the toolbar. All the functions can be accessed by the main menu or the toolbar buttons. Open Windows Notepad and type some words. You will see matching words displayed in a prompt box while you are typing.
Select "options..." from the main menu to activate the options dialog. Go to <prompt> page. Make sure the radio button option "default prompt mode" is "Word/Phrase" instead of "Shorthand". Also make sure the check box option "Prompt Word/Phrase" right below is turned on.
Open a word processor, e.g., notepad. Type the beginning letters of a word (Let's call it 'prefix'). You will see words matching the prefix displayed in the prompt box. Press Up/Down Arrow to change selection. Press CTRL to autocomplete the selected entry. Press Down Arrow + n to directly autocomplete an entry by its index. 'n' is the entry index. The indexes are displayed on the left on each entry. The index can be 0~9 and a~z.
Select "options..." from the main menu to activate the options dialog. Go to <prompt> page. Make sure the radio button option "default prompt mode" is "Shorthand" instead of "Word/Phrase". Also make sure the checkbox option "Prompt Shorthand" right below is turned on.
Open a word processor like notepad. Type 'afaik' character by character. You will see several matching shorthands prompted. When you have typed 'afaik' in full, you will see only one entry prompted which is 'as far as I know'. Press Up/Down Arrow to change selection if necessary. Press CTRL to expand the selected shorthand. Press Down Arrow + n to directly expand an entry by its index.
There may be both matching words/phrases and shorthands for the same prefix. For example, both the word 'affair' and the shorthand 'afaik (as far as I know)' matches the prefix 'af'. You can press CTRL+ALT+N to switch between word/phrase mode and shorthand mode. You can set the default prompt mode or enable/disable each mode in the prompt page of the options dialog.
IntelliComplete uses word libraries for word/phrase autocompletion and shorthand libraries for auto-expansion. Both language libraries and professional libraries are word libraries. Language libraries, professional libraries and shorthand libraries are stored under 'langlib', 'proflib' and 'shlib' directories, respectively. All the functions related with library management are located under "Library Management" in the main menu. The frequently used functions are listed below,
Word library manager: manage word libraries. |
|
Shorthand library manager: manager shorthand libraries |
|
Set Active Libraries: select active libraries that will be used for autocompletion and autoexpansion. |
Library Creation and Importation
The functions involved with library creation and importation are located under 'import' of the main menu. You can create and import libraries from word/phrase/shorthand lists, plain-text documents, source code, etc.
